Confession

Okay, I am admitting this...I really don't like doing crafts with children. I don't know if it's my perfectionism or impatience but I find it extremely stressful. I know this sounds ridiculous, seriously, but whenever I attempt to do crafts with my kids they are clamouring to get my attention, using the supplies in inappropriate ways, (licking the glue stick or stapling their shirt being two that happened during this particular crafting moment), or 'wrecking' what we are working on. So, glutton for punishment that I am, one of my goals for the summer is to do MORE crafting with them. The idea being that given more time and experience I will grow to love it, they will stop causing bodily harm to themselves and will eventually get so good at it that I can set them loose for hours on end with paper, glue and colouring utensils. Doesn't seem like too much to ask, does it? All joking aside, making these pirate hats wasn't so bad, and we did have fun, but there wasn't much that could go off the rails here. For anyone reading this -you are NEVER allowed to buy my children paint. I mean it. :)

No paint?!? That is really too bad because paint will allow them to express themselves in ways that you have not yet even imagined!!

The pirate hats are so cute. You're amazing. (And you're not alone; it's torture for me to sit and craft with my kids while they wreck things!)

Thats why I try not to give them direction just safe space and tools plus cheap material (i.e almost anything from recycling is game and let them not harrass me for as long as it occupies them. Glue ends up being a bit of an issue though. Tomo is much better with it but overall giving a 2 year old any form of glue- stick or brush with a bit of white glue or the little clear squeeze tube it always ends up in a big wasteful mess that is not so fun for clean up time especially when there is this big tummy in the way (PS. doesn't wiping all the messes from under the table make you feel like you are squishing baby and forces you to run to the bathroom?)
Anyhow, Perhaps that is why Tomo doesn't like taking directions and doing things his own way :|

The hats look awesome. I think I will borrow your craft idea. I hope you do tons more so I can use your ideas :)

I think I will be doing alot of crafting with the boys this summer too because of baby.

Sending my luv but no paint :)
