This was the work part of our long weekend, (at least for Darrel and I).
On Friday night after work I went to Judy's house (Darrel's co-worker who recently retired) and pilfered from her garden. She is getting rid of many of her perennials from her garden and offered some of them to me. I gladly snapped up some lillies, a ferny purple bleeding heart, some ground cover type plants, and numerous others that I have forgotten the names of. (Why can't plant knowledge stick in my head, honestly?! No fear, I have things all written down.)
Friday evening and Saturday morning we planted and planted. I had also picked up a few bedding annuals at Costco on Friday night, bless their cheap mass produced flowers! There are red petunias and allysum in the front and some marigolds and pansies in the back.

This is the back before we planted anything.

Jack and Eric cooled off in the Froggy splash pool as it was really hot.

This is the back with tomatoes, marigolds, lillies and more. The corner piece close to the fence is seeded with sunflowers, all different colours and varying heights so that they are tall in the back and get shorter towards the front. I am so excited about them!

The front flower bed that now extends across the front yard. I had planted the daffodils in the fall and when we moved everything around Jack and I dug them up and transplanted them. Their cheery yellow makes me really happy. Anne had also brought us some perrenials to transplant from her garden so there are some lillies in next to the daffodils now too. Darrel and I planted seeds in behind the petunias. (Asters, cosmos, poppies, wildflowers and some sunflowers.) It's kind of an experiment to see how things turn out.

I love this little plant that I put in the gravel flower bed up close to the front of the house. It's called mossy saxfrage -a strange name for such a pretty thing. Jack actually picked it out when we went to Hole's nursery with Nan last week. "Please I buy this Mommy?" How could I resist?

Your yard looks great, I planted a bunch of preannial and am still waiting for the blooms, but they are coming. It has been nice enough for a wade in the pool, now that I am super jealous about....
Oooh, I just love all your new flower beds! Your yard looks wonderful, and I can't wait to see/hear how everything does this summer. It's a lot of work, but I find gardening relaxing and rewarding. Enjoy!
