Where oh where has spring gone...

The weather outside is frightful I'm telling you. So much for planting my garden on the May long weekend. I've been covering these tulips at night for about a week as it's been pretty nippy (-6C one night, yikes!) Darrel has been a champ and has still been doing lots in the yard, he is my yard work hero as the least little bit of exertion pretty much incapacitates my by nightful (my pregnant back and hips can't seem to take it -man I'm getting too old for this.)

On Saturday he and Jack trimmed up the trees at the back of the yard and he has all of the fence panels built in anticipation of the great fence building day in June. Today he spent two hours moving a huge pile of gravel. What a good man!

The fence that is being replaced is the one in the background of the picture -the reddy brown one between us and the neighbours. It is being propped up in places by other boards and the posts are all rotted so it's time to go. We're kind of excited (well excited isn't the word, maybe pleased) that the new fence will give us more privacy. Not that we don't like these neighbours, (and from all accounts they love us because we don't have a big barky dog like the last people), but you know, it's just nice to have privacy in your yard. The new fence is quite a bit taller and has no gaps between the boards so we won't really see eachother when we're out there. And as they say, "good fences make good neighbours."

I'm glad that you're getting lots of help from Darrel; too bad Mother Nature can't get on board.

The fence looks awesome! Privacy and the ability to boot the kids out and know they are safe is a luxury I for one wish I had. -6???
If I were you I would open the window and shake my fist to our fellow mother and remind her that it is almost June! Have some mercy mother nature!
